Lucas Street (IANS) Sri Lanka held their nerve to beat the West Indies by one wicket with two balls to spare in a thrilling finish to the second One-Day International (ODI) here.

Sent in at the Windward Cricket Club Friday, the West Indies scored 197 for nine off their 50 overs with Shemaine Campbelle top-scoring with 56 and Juliano Nero chipping in with 45.

Off-spinner Shashikala Siriwardena was the best bowler with three for 27 while seamers Sripali Weerakkody (2-36) and Chamani Seneviratne (2-38) were among the wickets.

Sri Lanka were propelled by Yashodha Mendis’s 51 while Shashikala Siriwardena got 34, but Sri Lanka found themselves struggling late in the innings.

Dubai (PTI)  West Indies fast bowler Kemar Roach has been fined 50 per cent of his match fee for making “physical contact” with Australian pacer Brett Lee during his side’s fifth and final one-dayer (ODI) at St Lucia.

Roach was charged with a Level 2 offence, contrary to clause 2.2.4 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players or Team Officials, which relates to “inappropriate and deliberate physical contact between players in the course of play”.

Roach pleaded guilty to the offence and accepted the proposed sanction so there was no need for a formal hearing.

The incident happened in the 39th over of Australia’s innings when Roach twice made physical contact with Lee. Roach first made contact with Lee when he was approaching him to complete a single. He then again gave Lee a nudge as he walked past the Australian to his bowling mark.

Andy Pycroft of the Emirates Elite Panel of ICC Match Referees, explaining his decision, said: “There is no doubt that Kemar deliberately made physical contact with Brett, not once but twice. This is completely unacceptable as there is no place for physical contact in cricket.

Johannesburg (ANI) : South Africa won the third one-day international against Sri Lanka by four runs through the Duckworth Lewis method on Tuesday at Bloemfontein. They have also won the five-match series after beating the Lankans in the first two matches. South Africa had scored 179 runs with loss of four wickets by the 34th over when rain stopped the game from proceeding further.

At the start of 34th over, the Proteas were three runs behind the required run rate but Lasith Malinga bowled a loose over and conceded eight runs, which eventually cost the Lankans the match. Malinga had started well when he took two wickets in his first spell of four overs in which he also gave away just 12 runs leaving the Proteas quivering on 29 for two, The sports24 reports. After Tillakaratne Dilshan scalped the wicket of Alviro Peterson, Faf du Plessis, coming in at four, and JP Duminy shared a much-needed61-run partnership before Duminy was run out.

Du Plessis was also run out after a match-saving knock of 72 runs and after this captain AB de Villiers batted sensibly along with Albie Morkel to secure a win for them, keeping the rain in their mind. Sri Lanka on the other hand scored 266 for nine with the help of Upal Tharanga’s innings of 58 (50 off 54 balls) and Kumar Sangakkara’s innings of 38. This was De Villiers first series win in his maiden series as captain of the squad.
